Infinite in Every Direction
Tonight the sky is breathtaking,
And I am infinite.
No longer is there a door or wall to obstruct
The freedom of the outside.
There is no longer the impossible amount of distance
Which spans between the ground, sky, and stars.
It is now only mere simple steps
Upon a cloud that is close enough to look down upon.
Even if you simply stared with eyes open wide,
You are traveling worlds and lifetimes away.
Earth is no longer a rock
With an atmosphere, life, and history of its own.
It is a part of space,
And space is a part of it.
Weaved together in a beautiful masterpiece.
Borders, disputes, wars,
Yours vs. Mine,
Disappear and fade into Ours.
One night sky:
Visible from the moment Earth began,
Visible during nights of peace and rest,
Visible during nights of war and disease.
Even when invisible,
One has to only think of such a breathless night as this one
In order to feel space,
To feel it is alive.
It surrounds you with Giants that are infinitely larger than you,
And Particles that are infinitely smaller than you.
It gives reason for worry, fear, and paranoia,
Acknowledging at any moment
A solitary meteor could crash,
The Sun could extinguish its light
The Earth could leave a predestined orbit,
For it all to stop.
For Life, everything any person knows or knew it to be,
Everything it could be known to be,
To simply stop and cease to be.
Yet this can cause the most prideful, selfish, hateful being
To take a step back and pause in wonder.
It strikes awe and fascination
At the endless Sea that beckons right outside the window.
There's an even greater amount of gratitude to be felt
When one realizes they are alive and coexist with Giants and Particles.
Tonight the clouds pieced together
Around the full moon,
Like a puzzle with a few empty spaces between,
Indicate great possibilities and exploration.
It is more beautiful than any artwork accomplished in the history of man.
The night gave you hope
And left you breathless,
But you'd rather suffocate
Than miss this view.
Your eyes water from the cold wind,
But you cannot look away,
You will not.
You refuse to miss this sky.
It draws you in,
And you will do what you are able
To feel infinite.
Clutching onto the streams of the wind.
This is a night worth viewing and studying,
Even for hours on end,
Because the deeper you swim,
The more you find.
This night is worth a million other nights
Because of the jewels shining through the silky black sky.
This night is worth suffering,
And perhaps fighting for.
Because the instant an eye lays upon this scene,
The secrets of Life, Earth, Universe, God, and Man,
Are all at once revealed.
It is the type of night to distance you from every problem,
And give you enough wisdom
For someone else's.
These nights mend broken hearts,
These nights stun you sober,
Break you into a high,
Causing you to neither love nor hate it,
But simply need it.
Above any boy,
I would choose this sky.
Above any party,
I would choose to lie,
Here in the crystal clear,
Starry, starry, bright pitch-black,
Dawn of the night.
No matter what it takes,
I will find the time to view
An ever expanding infinity.
And I am infinite.
No longer is there a door or wall to obstruct
The freedom of the outside.
