Haunted Pt. 2
The nurse left work
at five o’ clock. After a long 43 hour shift, she was ready to sleep for a
week.
At her apartment she fed her
dog while he greeted her with kisses and continuously whined. Even after he ate
and drank and played, he still continued to whine.
Her eyes were heavy,
however, and her entire body was worn out from the toil the day had on her.
When she groggily
opened her eyes again, her dog was still whining.
“What Rascal? What
do you want?” She groaned.
He only whined in
response, and her pounding headache would not have any of it.
So, she forced her
feet to swing off the couch. She rested her head on her hand and rubbed her
eyes. She was just so tired. But her
headache made it impossible to fully relax, so she stood up to investigate what
Rascal could possibly be whining
about.
He led her to the
end of the hallway to the closet and pawed the door. She pointed to the door,
“This is just a closet Rascal. Is this
what you wanted me to see?”
He continued to paw
the door and whine, looking up with a helpless expression. After sighing and
rolling her eyes, she opened the door, only to find…puppies? She turned around
to Rascal, but he wasn’t there, all that was behind her was a line full of
puppies.
Anxiety became a
rock in her chest as she tried to breathe.
How
could this have happened? He’s a boy, and he’s neutered, She thought to
herself, but in all her mental confusion of the moment, she couldn’t be sure of
anything anymore.
She followed the
line of puppies out to the living room where it was completely filled with puppies, and kittens, and
tons of other creatures and living things.
Stress pounded down
on her, she couldn’t breathe. Grasping onto her neck she felt literally weighed down. As her eyes
glanced down, all she could think was, Oh
shit, oh shit, ohshitohshitohfuckingshit.
Her belly was round
and big, as if it were about to pop. She couldn’t help but feel extremely
nauseous at the whole situation. And the smell of animals didn’t help either.
There was no way she
could do this on her own. She sat down and tried
to breathe, but she began to hyperventilate.
At that moment she
woke up to her dark living room, devoid of all animals, besides Rascal.
Instantly she checked her stomach, and sighed with relief.
No
baby, plus that would be impossible.
But her dog was
still whining, and again she felt the anxiety within her gut. He pulled on her
work pants that were still on from earlier in the day.
And again, just like her dream, he pulled her
to the end of the hallway, right to the closet. With every ounce of courage she
could muster, she quickly pulled the door open. A small smile appeared on her
tired face. This she could handle.
It was a small orange tabby kitten, tired and hungry, just like her. Although the kitten probably got in through the doggy door, this situation was much better than the one her dream presented her with. She decided the kitten would be called lucky, because that’s
all she could feel at the moment: luck.
