Heartbreak

You know that feeling when you're riding a bike downhill?
The wind in your hair,
Trees blindly passing by you
As you feel giddy and breathless.
All you want in that moment
Is to peddle as fast as you can,
Speeding by at the speed of light.

At that moment you don't care that you're ill-equipped,
You could care less that you don't have a helmet or knee pads;
In this moment you're invincible.

Yet all it takes is one pebble to knock you off track
And send you flying through the air.
That's what love is like:
You go so fast
You ignore the warning signs.
You want to go faster,
But the faster you go,
The more dangerous you're making it for yourself.
But, in that moment all you see is their smile
And it gives you that breathlessness you'd been searching your whole life for.

In that moment you don't think you're rushing,
In that moment you don't think you're fabricating a relationship out of thin air,
In that moment you couldn't fathom them not caring about you.

Oh, silly girl,
What else did you expect?
You can't be happy.
Happiness is for the fools who are willing to get scraped,
Scratched, and torn apart,
But you have wrapped yourself in bubble wrap for too long.

Yet, you let yourself out for that cheesy smile,
So damn you,
You have no room to complain when you put yourself in this mess.
I just hope next time you're more careful.
